Health Pretenders - Spirit Farm

Own your sick.

Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick.” (Luke 5:31)

It’s both funny and sad to watch people pretend they’re not sick. Holding back coughs until they cry; adding make-up to their red nose; saying, “it’s just allergies.” Maybe you’re afraid to miss out. Maybe you’re hoping the known germ-a-phobes don’t get mad. Maybe you’re like me and in denial: “I’m not sick. I’m not going to let this get me. I’m fighting it off.”

People I refer to as “religious” take one of these same approaches, but morally.

“I’m not that bad.”

“I’m not addicted.”

“I’m not like them.”

“They can’t know or I’ll be kicked out.”

That’s fine. I’ve been there. #NotJudging

However, you’re missing out on an experience with Jesus. Jesus seems to chill with people who know they’re sick. Not the health-pretenders.

Let’s own our sick. And let’s stop fearing the frailty in all of us.
